Fixing a Booking Widget That Won't Load or Shows Blank

A blank booking widget is one of the most costly issues to leave unnoticed, since it silently turns away every visitor who lands on that page while looking completely fine from a glance at your site's homepage.

Start with the basics

  1. Open the page directly and check the browser console for errors — a blocked script, a broken embed code, or a conflicting page script are common causes of a widget that never renders.
  2. Confirm the embed code wasn't accidentally altered when it was copied and pasted — missing characters or extra formatting from a page builder can silently break it.
  3. Check whether the calendar the widget points to still exists and is active — a widget pointed at a deleted or deactivated calendar will fail to load anything.

Common environment-specific causes

  • Ad blockers or privacy extensions — some aggressively block embedded third-party widgets; test in a clean browser profile or incognito window before ruling this out.
  • Page builder conflicts — certain website builders sandbox embedded code in ways that break scripts the widget relies on; test the same embed code on a plain HTML page to isolate whether the issue is the widget or the page builder.
  • Caching — a page cached before an embed code change was made can keep serving the old, broken version; clear cache or hard-refresh before concluding the fix didn't work.

If it's the widget settings themselves

Check that the calendar behind the widget has active availability configured — a calendar with no working hours set, or with every staff member unavailable, can render as an empty or broken-looking widget rather than a clear error message.

Good to know: Always test the live embedded widget on the actual page, not just a settings preview — page-specific styling and scripts can break a widget that renders perfectly fine in isolation.
