Create, Update and Clear Companies and Their Contacts in Company Workflows
Company-based workflows have three companion actions: Create Company or Associated Contact, Update Company or Associated Contact and Clear Fields of Company or Associated Contact. Each asks which kind of record to work on.
Choose the record type
- Company: the company record that is in the workflow.
- Associated Contact: contacts linked to that company.
What each action does
- Create makes a new company, or a new contact automatically linked to the current company. Map values from webhook data, company fields, custom values or fixed text, using + Add Field.
- Update edits fields on existing records only. If the company has no associated contacts, the contact version is skipped.
- Clear empties selected standard or custom fields while keeping the record and its links. When several contacts are linked, every one is cleared.
Set it up
- Open Automation > Workflows and start a company-based workflow, for example with an Inbound Webhook trigger.
- Click + and add the action.
- Choose Company or Associated Contact.
- Add one field and value row for each field to change, or choose the fields to clear.
- Save the action and publish.
Examples
- A webhook delivers a new business lead. Create the company, then create its contact with the sender's email and name.
- A company turns Inactive. Clear the "Contact Status" field on all associated contacts.
Good to know: To clear fields in a contact-based workflow, use the contact workflow's company actions instead, because these three only exist in company workflows.
