Recipe: Grant Course Access on Purchase and Remove It When It Ends

This recipe gives paying students access automatically and takes it away when a subscription ends, with friendly emails at both moments.

Prepare

  1. Create your course under Memberships > Products.
  2. Create an offer for it under Memberships > Offers (paid or free).
  3. Write two email templates: "Welcome to the course" and "Your access has ended".

Workflow 1: Grant access

  1. Trigger: Payment Received, filtered to the product, or Form Submitted for free courses.
  2. Action: Course Grant Offer, selecting your offer.
  3. Action: Send Email with the welcome template and a button to the course.
  4. Action: Add Tag "Student - Active".
  5. Save and publish.

Workflow 2: Revoke access

  1. Trigger: Contact Tag Changed with "expired" added (or a subscription-cancelled trigger).
  2. Action: Course Revoke Offer, selecting the same offer.
  3. Action: Remove Tag "Student - Active".
  4. Action: Send Email using the access-ended template with a link to renew.
  5. Save and publish.

Add a renewal reminder

  1. Use Event Start Date with the contact's renewal date field.
  2. Wait until 7 days before.
  3. Send a reminder email and text.
  4. If the contact renews, remove the "expired" tag so access continues.

Test checklist

  • Use a test contact and a low-priced or free offer.
  • Confirm the course appears for the student after step one.
  • Add "expired" manually and confirm access disappears.
  • Check that the two emails use the right templates.

Good to know: Granting the same offer twice does not duplicate enrollment or reset progress, so overlapping triggers are safe.
