Schedule Follow-Up Work with the Add Task Action
Add Task creates a task on the contact for a team member, with a due date calculated from the moment the contact reaches the step.
Fields
- Action Name: for example "Add Task - Follow up".
- Title: required.
- Description: rich text, with formatting preserved.
- Assign To: required. Choose the team member.
- Due In: a number plus days, weeks, months or years, or "Now" for immediate tasks.
- Due Time (optional): a specific time of day.
- Skip Weekends (optional): leaves out Saturdays and Sundays when counting.
- Due Date Preview: shows the evaluated due date and time so you can verify it.
Set it up
- Open Automation > Workflows and choose a trigger.
- Click + and choose Add Task.
- Complete the title, description and assignee.
- Set the due offset, optional time and weekend rule, then confirm the preview.
- Click Save Action and publish.
Example
Title: "Follow up with new lead". Description: "Call the lead and check on onboarding progress". Assign to your account manager. Due in 2 weeks at 10:30 AM, skipping weekends. The assignee sees a task due on the previewed date.
Combining with other steps
- Add a task after a failed email, an unanswered call or a lost deal.
- Use the Task Completed trigger to start the next stage of work.
Good to know: Use merge fields in the title, such as the contact's name, so tasks are readable in lists.
