Fixing Google Ads Landing Page Rejections on Funnel Subdomains
If your funnel runs on a subdomain and Google Ads rejects it with messages such as "Redirect or URL loop," "Final URL mismatch," "Circumventing systems" or "Compromised site," the cause is often two working addresses for one page.
Why It Happens
A funnel step has its own path, for example offers.example.com/summer-deal, but people also want the root offers.example.com/ to show it. Both load the same step. Browsers handle that fine, yet Google sees two URLs for one page and may treat it as an inconsistent redirect.
The Fix: Declare a Canonical URL
A canonical tag tells search engines which address is the official one.
- Go to Sites > Funnels and open the funnel.
- Select the funnel step and open its Settings.
- Scroll to SEO Meta Data and find the custom head code box.
- Paste a tag with your own address, such as
<link rel="canonical" href="https://offers.example.com/" />. - Save and publish.
- Resubmit the ad for review.
Use the address you place in your ads as the canonical value, and keep it consistent with the ad's final URL.
More Examples
For promo.example.com/landing-page, use https://promo.example.com/. For demo.example.com/demo-step, use https://demo.example.com/.
When to Use It
Use it when the funnel is on a subdomain, the ad is rejected, an extra path shows up, or Search Console reports duplicate URLs. Visitors notice no difference, because only crawlers read the tag.
Good to know: Point your ad's final URL at exactly the same address as the canonical tag to avoid a mismatch.
