Let Respondents Write In an "Other" Answer

Predefined choices can miss what people really think. The Other option adds a text box under a radio question so respondents can type their own answer.

Turn it on

  1. Go to Sites and open a form or survey (use the three-dot menu and choose Edit).
  2. Click the + icon and drag a Radio element onto the canvas.
  3. Click the radio element and open the Options tab in the right panel.
  4. Switch on the Other toggle.
  5. Click Save and test in Preview.

When a visitor picks Other, a field opens where they can write in their reply.

Where the answers go

Open Submissions for the form or survey. The written reply appears in the same column as the radio question. If you export submissions to CSV, the custom text is included.

When to use it

  • Lead source questions ("How did you hear about us?") where new channels keep appearing.
  • Product interest surveys with a wide range of possible answers.
  • Feedback forms where you want to discover options you have not thought of.

Review the typed answers regularly. If several people write the same thing, promote it to a regular option.

Good to know: The Other option applies to radio buttons; for checkboxes or dropdowns, add a regular choice called "Other" and follow it with a short-text field.
