Look Up a Custom Object Record or Company from Webhook Data

Find Object Record (in custom object workflows) and Find Company (in company workflows) search your records using values that arrive with an inbound webhook, so the rest of the workflow knows which record to work on.

Requirements

  • The workflow must contain an Inbound Webhook trigger. The action reads values from that payload, for example {{inboundWebhookRequest.body.domain}}.
  • If the workflow already starts from the same kind of record, this step is skipped automatically.

Settings

  • Filters: one or more rows, each pairing a record field (Record ID, External ID, Company Name, Domain and so on) with a value from the webhook body or headers, or a fixed value. All rows must match.
  • Filter On: when several records match, choose Earliest Created Record or Latest Created Record.

Outcomes

  • Record Found: the match becomes the current record for later steps such as update, associate or clear.
  • Record Not Found: create a new record, alert someone, or end the flow.

Set it up

  1. Add an Inbound Webhook trigger and capture a sample request.
  2. Click + and add Find Object Record or Find Company.
  3. Add a filter, such as Pet Name equals the webhook's petname value.
  4. Pick the tie-breaker and save.
  5. Build the Found and Not Found branches.

Example

A billing system posts a subscription reference. The workflow finds the Subscription record with that External ID, updates its status on the found path, and creates a record on the not found path.

Good to know: Match on unique identifiers like External ID or domain, because names vary in spelling and casing.
