Add a Countdown Timer Button to a WhatsApp Template

You can attach a timer to a WhatsApp message template as a button. When someone taps it, they go to your active offer page or your expired page depending on the live timer state.

Supported Timers

  • Fixed: a hard deadline.
  • Recurring: a repeating schedule.
  • Dynamic: a per-contact window that starts when the message is sent or delivered.

Add the Button

  1. Go to Settings, then WhatsApp, and open the Templates tab.
  2. Click + Create Template, or open one to edit.
  3. Fill in the Name, Category, Language, Header, Body, and Footer.
  4. Under Button, click + Add Button and choose Countdown Timer.
  5. Open the Timer dropdown and select a timer, or click + Create New.
  6. Click Edit Timer under Timer URL to confirm the type, duration or end time, and for dynamic timers the Start timer when trigger.
  7. Make sure both the Active link and Expired link are filled in.
  8. Review the preview and click Create.

Good Practices

  • Your offer page should carry the same timer so it closes itself on time.
  • You can include up to two timer buttons per template, combined with website buttons.
  • If you see "No link found", the timer lacks a redirect link; use Edit Timer to add one.
  • To branch a workflow on clicks, use a trigger link as the timer URL so clicks are recorded.

Good to know: Preview the template on your own phone before submitting it for approval.
