Flag New Deals with the Opportunity Created Trigger
Every time a new opportunity is added to a pipeline, the Opportunity Created trigger can start a workflow. Use it to alert the right person, set up first steps and tag deals by size or source.
When it fires
The workflow runs when a new opportunity is created, whether someone adds it manually, a form or order creates it, or another workflow does. It fires once per new opportunity.
Filters
- Assigned To: the team member who owns the deal.
- In Pipeline: one specific pipeline.
- Status: the starting status, such as Open.
- Lead Value: the monetary value, with operators such as Equals to, Greater than and Less than.
- Lost Reason: the reason entered for a lost deal.
- Tag: include or exclude deals by tag, with Equals to, Not equals to, Any of and None of. Several tag filters can be used together.
Operators like Contains, Is Empty and Is Not Empty are also available for fields that hold text.
Set it up
- Open Automation > Workflows and create a workflow.
- Click Add New Trigger and select Opportunity Created.
- Name it, for example "High-value opportunity".
- Click Add filters, choose Lead Value, set Greater than and enter 10000.
- Click Save Trigger, add actions, and publish.
Example actions
- Send an internal notification to the sales manager for big deals.
- Create a task for the owner to call within the hour.
- Send the contact a short confirmation message.
- Add a tag such as "Large deal" for reporting.
Tips
- Add a pipeline filter if you run more than one pipeline so unrelated deals do not trigger the same message.
- Use a separate trigger without filters as a catch-all if every new deal needs a task.
Good to know: Creation fires before anyone moves the deal, so pair this trigger with Pipeline Stage Changed for everything that happens afterwards.
