Add Deals to a Pipeline with the Create Opportunity Action
The Create Opportunity action puts a new deal into a pipeline for the contact in your workflow.
Settings
- Action Name: required.
- Pipeline: required.
- Pipeline Stage: optional. Blank means the first stage.
- Opportunity Name: optional. Blank uses the contact's name, or a merge field you insert.
- Opportunity Source: optional label such as Website or Referral.
- Status: blank means Open.
- Opportunity Value: blank means 0.
- Duplicate Opportunity: when off, no new opportunity is created if the contact already has one.
- Other custom fields: fill additional fields. Date fields can use values like Right Now.
- Ownership: depends on your opportunity settings, either the contact's owner or unassigned.
Set it up
- Open Automation > Workflows, choose a trigger such as Form Submitted.
- Click + and select Create Opportunity.
- Choose the pipeline and stage and fill in the fields you need.
- Decide whether duplicates are allowed.
- Save the action and publish.
Things to know
- A contact is required. Inbound webhooks without contact data cannot create opportunities.
- Duplicate checks look at the contact, not the name.
- If the contact has no name, an email or other identifier is used.
- The older combined Create/Update Opportunity action is being phased out and does not use the opportunity that triggered the workflow or one found earlier. Prefer Create Opportunity plus Update Opportunity.
Good to know: Allow duplicates for businesses with repeat purchases, but keep them off for single-sale pipelines.
