Sync Signed Field Data Back to Your Records
Auto-filling a template pulls saved data into a document. This feature works the other direction — it takes what a signer types into a text or date field and saves it back onto the contact or the document record automatically, so you never have to re-enter it by hand.
Setting it up
- Open a document template in the editor and add the text or date fields you need signers to fill in.
- Assign the field to a recipient.
- Click the link icon that appears above the text or date field.
- Choose which custom value — on the contact or on the document — that field should write its answer into.
- You can link a single field to more than one custom value at the same time if needed.
What happens after signing
Once the recipient fills in the field and completes signing, their entry is automatically saved into the linked custom value on the contact or document record — no manual data entry, no copy-pasting from a PDF.
Reviewing the data
You can also download a CSV report from the Documents & Contracts dashboard that pulls together everything captured this way across your completed documents, useful for reviewing or analyzing responses in bulk.
Why this is useful
Any information you collect during signing — a preferred start date, a shipping address, a project detail — becomes usable data in your CRM immediately, instead of sitting inside a signed PDF that someone has to open and retype later.
