Send Contacts Back or Across with the Go To Action
Go To moves a contact from one place in a workflow to another step. Use it to loop back, merge branches or skip ahead, without copying the same steps again.
How it works
- Go To can only be the last step of a workflow or of a branch. It cannot sit between two actions.
- After saving it, every other step in the workflow becomes highlighted. Click the step where the contact should continue.
- To change the destination, click Disconnect GoTo under the action and choose again.
Set it up
- Finish the branch you want to end with a jump.
- Click + at the end of that branch and choose Go To.
- Name it, such as "Go to Wait step".
- Click Save.
- Click the destination step on the canvas.
- Test the loop to ensure it ends.
Example
An abandoned checkout flow sends a reminder email, waits a day, then checks for a "Purchased" tag with If/Else. Buyers on the first branch should not get a second email. Instead they end with a Go To pointing at the final wait step of the other branch, so everyone rejoins the same closing logic.
Cautions
- A Go To pointing backward can loop forever. Add a Wait and a condition that eventually changes.
- Jumping into the middle of a branch skips earlier steps, so confirm the target has what it needs.
Good to know: The workflow canvas also supports Go To connections from triggers, covered in a separate article.
