Add, Update, and Clear Google Sheets Rows from a Workflow

The Google Sheets action connects a workflow to a spreadsheet, so contact activity can be logged and maintained automatically without a separate connector tool.

Before you begin

  • Connect a Google account that can open the spreadsheet.
  • Put clear column headers in the first row of the sheet, because the first row is treated as the header row.
  • Make sure the worksheet tab you need exists.

Connect and choose the sheet

  1. Open a workflow and click +, then choose Google Sheets.
  2. Select the row operation you want.
  3. Pick the Google Account, Drive, Spreadsheet, and Worksheet.
  4. Click Refresh Headers whenever you add, rename, or reorder columns.
  5. Choose a Starting Column and Ending Column, then map workflow values to each header.
  6. Click Save Action.

Row operations

  • Create Spreadsheet Row: appends a new record after the last used row.
  • Update Specific Spreadsheet Row: changes values in a row number you provide, either typed or inserted dynamically. Leave a column blank to keep its current value.
  • Update Spreadsheet Row Using Lookup: edits the row found by an earlier lookup step.
  • Delete Specific Spreadsheet Row: empties the contents of a numbered row.
  • Delete Spreadsheet Row Using Lookup: empties the row found by a lookup.

Delete actions clear cell contents only; the row itself stays in the sheet.

Troubleshooting

  • Sheet not listed: check the connected account's access, or reauthorize it.
  • Columns missing or wrong: click Refresh Headers and review your mapping.
  • Dependent step skipped: an earlier lookup found nothing, so there was no row to act on.

Good to know: This is a premium action, so it may consume execution credits on each run depending on your plan.
