Clone an Existing WordPress Site
Cloning creates a brand-new, independent copy of a WordPress site, including its content, theme, plugins, and settings. It is the quickest way to launch a site that starts from a design you already like, or to spin up a copy for experiments.
What cloning gives you
- A full duplicate: pages, posts, media, active theme, installed plugins, and configuration come along.
- Independence: after the copy finishes, changes to one site never affect the other.
- Consistency: useful when several sites should share the same layout, plugins, and defaults.
Before you start
You need a user role that is allowed to create WordPress sites in your Vendi Today account. If you do not have the necessary access, you will only see the option to start a blank site. Ask an administrator to adjust your permissions if the clone option is missing.
Steps
- Open Sites and click the WordPress tab.
- Click + Create Site and choose the blank or new site route, or open an unfinished site card.
- Select Choose From Existing Site.
- Pick the account that holds the site you want to copy, then choose the Source Site.
- Type a name in the New Website Name field.
- Optionally choose a server location when asked.
- Click Clone.
- Watch the progress indicator until it finishes. The copy then appears in your WordPress list as its own site.
Troubleshooting
- No clone option: your role may not allow it; the setup falls back to creating a blank site.
- Progress seems stuck: refresh the page and check the status indicator. If it still does not move, contact support.
After cloning, remember to attach a domain and review settings such as search visibility, because the copy is a separate site.
Good to know: Clone a site to a new server region when you need to relocate it, since the region is fixed once a site is created.
