Send Website Visitors to WhatsApp With the Chat Widget

The WhatsApp chat type gives visitors a one-click path from your website into a WhatsApp conversation with your business.

Before you begin

Connect a WhatsApp number to your account. The widget uses it as the destination.

Set it up

  1. Go to Sites > Chat Widget and click New (or open an existing widget).
  2. Choose WhatsApp Chat as the type.
  3. Select the number visitors should contact.
  4. Customize the heading, welcome message, colors and the visitor fields you want.
  5. Optionally prefill the Message field, for example "Hi, I would like to know more about your services." Visitors can edit it before continuing.
  6. Click Save.

How the handoff works

  1. A visitor opens the widget and fills in the fields.
  2. They click to continue and are taken to WhatsApp.
  3. They send the message from WhatsApp.
  4. The conversation appears in Conversations once that message is sent.

What opens (the app or WhatsApp Web) depends on the visitor's device and browser.

Install it

Select the widget in your website or funnel settings and publish, or copy the code from Get Code and add it to an outside site. Then test on the live page.

If it is not working

  • Confirm the number is connected and chosen in the widget.
  • Make sure you saved and republished the site.
  • Remember the chat appears only after the visitor actually sends the WhatsApp message.

Good to know: A friendly prefilled message raises the number of visitors who actually press send.
