Generate AI Replies with the OpenRouter Action

OpenRouter gives you access to many AI models through one connection. Its Generate Response action sends a prompt to the model you pick and stores the answer so later steps can use it.

Connect OpenRouter first

1. Go to Settings > Integrations.
2. Find OpenRouter and click Connect.
3. Paste your OpenRouter API key and click Save.

System prompt versus prompt

• The System Prompt sets the personality and rules and stays constant. Example: "You are a friendly assistant who writes short, persuasive messages."
• The Prompt is the specific task for this run. Example: "Write a follow-up for the contact's first name who downloaded our pricing guide."

Insert merge fields in the prompt so each contact gets a tailored result.

Add the action

1. Open Automation > Workflows and click + in the builder.
2. Open the Apps tab and choose OpenRouter.
3. Select Generate Response.
4. Enter an Action Name such as "Draft lead follow-up".
5. Choose the model, then fill in the system prompt and prompt.
6. Save the action.

Use the output

The response becomes an output variable. Insert it into a Send SMS or Send Email step, an Internal Notification, or a field update action.

Good to know: Usage is billed by your OpenRouter account, so test with a small number of contacts before turning it on for a large list.
