Use Asana Triggers and Actions in Workflows
With Asana connected, workflows can create and update tasks and projects, and Asana activity can start workflows. This keeps your sales side and delivery side from drifting apart.
Triggers
Task Created, Task Updated, Project Created, Comment on Task, Task Moved to Section, New Attachment Added to Task, and New User. Most of these fire instantly. A few, such as tag-added and new-subtask triggers, are labeled as coming soon.
Actions
- Create: Create Task, Create Subtask, Create Project, Create Section, Create Comment/Story.
- Change: Update Task, Add Task to Section.
- Look up: Find Task, Find Task by ID, Find Task in Project, Find All Tasks from the Project, Find Comment from Task, Find Project, Find Section.
Set it up
- Open Automation > Workflows and add an Asana trigger or action.
- Click Connect Now and sign in to Asana, or connect under Settings > Integrations.
- Select the project and section, then fill in task fields using workflow values.
- For a trigger, click Test Trigger so a sample task is loaded for field mapping.
- Save and publish.
Example patterns
- Create a task with a due date when a client books a kickoff call.
- Notify the team in Conversations when an important Asana task is updated.
- Use a Find action first to avoid creating a duplicate task, then update the existing one.
Good to know: Look up IDs with a Find Project or Find Section step rather than typing them by hand; names change, but the lookup keeps working.
