Protect Your Chat Widget From Spam and Bots

Spam protection quietly spots suspicious form submissions, tags them and pauses outbound messages, without adding a CAPTCHA for real visitors.

What happens to a flagged lead

The contact is still created, but it receives the tag chat_widget_high_volume_flag and the channels you choose are paused. Calls, inbound messages and other Do Not Disturb settings are untouched. The activity log shows a note that spam protection enabled Do Not Disturb.

Choose a protection level

  • Tag only: label but keep messaging.
  • Pause SMS: protects text spend.
  • Pause Email: protects your sender reputation.
  • Pause Both: the default for new widgets.

Turn it on

  1. Go to Sites > Chat Widget and open the widget.
  2. Expand Spam Protection in the sidebar.
  3. Switch it on. Older widgets start off; new widgets start on.
  4. Choose a level and click Save.

Review flagged contacts

  1. In Contacts, filter by the tag chat_widget_high_volume_flag.
  2. Open a contact and read the activity log.
  3. If the person is genuine, restore messaging and remove the tag.
  4. Delete confirmed spam.

During a legitimate surge

If a campaign or event sends a rush of real sign-ups, expect some to be flagged. Review the tagged list afterward and restore the good ones.

Good to know: Review flagged contacts weekly so a real lead never waits unnoticed.
