Track Affiliate Sales with Coupon Codes

Some affiliates promote through podcasts, videos or live events, where a clickable link is awkward. A personal coupon code lets customers credit that affiliate at checkout instead.

Why Use Coupons

  • Credit sales when no referral link was used.
  • Offer a percentage or fixed-amount discount.
  • Track without discounting by using a 0% coupon.

Create a Coupon for an Affiliate

  1. Go to Marketing > Affiliate Manager and open the affiliates list.
  2. Click the affiliate you want to set up.
  3. Under Active Referral Links, find the campaign and click Customize.
  4. Open the Coupon tab.
  5. Choose the coupon type, Percentage or Fixed.
  6. Enter an easy-to-remember coupon name.
  7. Click Generate Code.
  8. Set the discount. Use 0% for pure tracking, anything up to 100% for a real discount (100% makes the offer free).
  9. Click Save.

You can edit or manage existing coupons in the same pop-up.

Best Practices

  • Pick codes that are short, readable and easy to say aloud, such as the affiliate's brand name.
  • Review codes from time to time and retire ones tied to finished promotions.
  • Remember that commission is calculated on the amount actually paid, so discounted orders earn a smaller reward.

What Is Supported

Coupon tracking works for sales within the campaign, and the sale is attached to the coupon's owner automatically when the code is used at checkout.

Good to know: A 0% coupon is a neat way to give affiliates a tracking code without eating into your margin.
