Set Up 301 URL Redirects
A 301 redirect permanently sends visitors and search engines from an old address to a new one, so renamed or moved pages never lead to a dead end.
When to use one
- You renamed a funnel step or website page path.
- You moved content or replaced a page.
- You are consolidating the www and non-www versions of a domain.
- An old campaign link should point to a current page.
If several addresses should stay live and you only want search engines to prefer one, a canonical URL is the better tool.
Create a redirect
- Go to Settings > Domains & URL Redirects and open the URL Redirects tab.
- Click + Add Redirect.
- Under Redirect From, choose a domain already added to your account.
- Choose what to redirect: a specific path (for example /contact) or the entire domain.
- Pick the target: a Custom URL, a Funnel step or a Website page. Funnel and website choices only list items linked to the chosen domain.
- Click Add Redirect.
Path rules
Use clean lowercase paths with letters, numbers and hyphens, such as /special-offer. Nested paths like /resources/guides/start are supported. Leave out characters such as ? % & = and #, and drop the query string; they stop the redirect from working.
Troubleshooting
If a redirect does nothing, check the path spelling, confirm the domain is connected and clear your browser cache.
Good to know: Redirect each old address to its closest replacement page rather than sending everything to the homepage.
