Keyword Opt-In Campaigns with Text Replies

Keyword opt-ins let people join a promotion by texting a word to your number. They work well with printed postcards, signs and billboards.

How it works

A customer sees a call to action such as Text SPRING to our number. When their text arrives, a workflow recognizes the keyword and replies with the offer.

Building it

  1. Go to Automations > Workflows and create a new workflow.
  2. Add the Customer Replied trigger.
  3. Add a filter so the reply must match your keyword. Think about capitalization and likely variations, such as Spring and SPRING.
  4. Add an action to tag the contact, for example Spring Promo Opt-In.
  5. Add a Send SMS action that confirms their sign-up and delivers the offer.
  6. Optionally add an email, a task for your team or an entry into a longer follow-up sequence.
  7. Save and publish.

Good practices

  • Make the keyword short, memorable and easy to type.
  • Use a different keyword for each ad so you can see which one performed best.
  • Reply quickly and say what they signed up for, how often you will message and how to stop.
  • Test with your own phone before printing anything.

Measuring results

Filter your contacts by the opt-in tag to see how many people responded, then follow their progress through your pipeline.

Good to know: Make sure you have the right consent language wherever the keyword appears, since people are agreeing to receive texts.
