Pause, Edit and Track an Email Sequence
Once a sequence is live, you may need to adjust it or check how it is doing. Here is how pausing works and where to find results.
Pause by moving to draft
You can move a published sequence back to draft. While it is paused:
- Any contact who becomes eligible for the next step during that time is skipped for that step.
- Example: if email 2 is set to send after email 1 is opened and a contact opens email 1 while the sequence is in draft, that contact will not receive email 2.
So pause only when you must, and for as short a time as possible.
Editing limits
After the first email in step 1 has been sent, you cannot pause the sequence to change the trigger or the content of the first step. Plan these carefully before launch. Later steps are easier to refine.
Track results
- Go to Marketing > Emails > Campaigns.
- Find the sequence in the list.
- Open its three-dot menu and choose Statistics.
- Review the overall results and each step's results.
You can also see sequences on the main statistics dashboard at Marketing > Emails > Statistics.
What to look for
- A step with a low open rate may need a better subject line.
- A step with many unsubscribes may be sent too early or too often.
- Replies tell you which messages start conversations.
Threaded emails also show up in Conversations, where your team can reply.
Good to know: Review step-level numbers after a week, then adjust the weakest email rather than rebuilding the whole sequence.
