Active, Expired and Redirection Links Explained

Every countdown timer carries two destinations and one smart link that chooses between them. Understanding how they fit together keeps buttons from sending people to an offer that has already closed.

The Three Links

  • Active Link: where contacts should land while the clock is still running, such as an offer, registration, checkout, or booking page.
  • Expired Link: where they should land after the deadline, such as an offer-ended page, a waitlist, or the next event.
  • Redirection Link: a conditional URL. When someone clicks it, Vendi Today checks the timer state and forwards them to the Active Link if time remains, or the Expired Link if it does not.

You can reuse the same Redirection Link forever on a button; the destination changes on its own.

Set It Up

  1. Open Marketing, then Countdown Timers, and create or open a timer.
  2. Configure the type, timing, and expiration options.
  3. Enter the Active Link, for example your offer page.
  4. Enter the Expired Link, for example a waitlist page.
  5. Save the timer.
  6. In the Email Builder, select the timer, copy its redirection link, and apply it to a button, linked image, or text link.
  7. Test once before the deadline and once after (or with a short test timer).

Redirection Link vs. Copy Code

The redirection link controls navigation when someone clicks. Copy Code displays the countdown itself on an outside site. They serve different jobs, so use both if you need a visible clock and a deadline-aware button off-platform.

Special Cases

  • Dynamic timers: copy the link from the timer's settings in the email editor so it stays tied to each contact's own clock.
  • Recurring timers: during a wait period contacts count as expired, so make sure the Expired Link makes sense for that moment.

Good to know: Put the same timer on your destination page so the page itself switches to the expired experience when time runs out.
