Review and Restore Earlier Workflow Versions

Version History is a timeline of saved states of a workflow. Use it to see who changed what and to bring back a previous design if an edit goes wrong.

Before you start

At launch this feature may need to be switched on in Settings > Labs for your account.

What each entry shows

  • Workflow name
  • Version number (v12, v13, v14 and so on)
  • Date and time
  • The person who saved it
  • Whether it was a Draft or Published version

You can filter by editor. History keeps up to 10 versions or 30 days, whichever limit comes first.

When versions are created

  • When you click Save.
  • When you confirm changes in the Unsaved Changes pop-up.
  • When you click Save Version.
  • When the status changes between Draft and Published.

Routine auto-saves don't make versions on their own, so click Save Version to snapshot your latest state.

Restore a version

  1. Open the workflow and click the History icon at the top right.
  2. Browse the list and pick a version.
  3. Click Restore to reopen it as a new draft, or choose Create new workflow from version to branch it into a separate workflow.

Restoring requires the workflow to be in Draft with no contacts currently inside it. Your published version doesn't change until you publish the restored draft, and the earlier versions remain available.

Effect on contacts mid-workflow

Contacts already in progress use updates to steps ahead of them. New steps after a Wait also apply. A change to the Wait itself does not alter waits already counting down.

Best practices

  • Name versions at milestones, such as "Added renewal branch".
  • Save a version before big edits.
  • Branch into a new workflow when testing bold ideas.

Good to know: Restoring resets Undo and Redo, so finish any in-session edits first.
