Inbound Call Rate Limits
To prevent spam and abuse from overwhelming the system, inbound calls to any given number are subject to rate limits. These are safeguards, not a sign of something wrong with your account — but it's useful to know they exist if you're expecting a call spike.
The limits
- IVR numbers — no rate limit.
- Voice AI numbers — limited above roughly 200 calls per minute to or from the same number.
- Regular (standard routing) numbers — limited above roughly 10 calls per minute from the same number, or 15 calls per minute to the same number.
Hitting a limit blocks just that individual call. If your account racks up more than 5 such violations within an hour, inbound calling is blocked account-wide until it's reviewed.
How to avoid hitting them
- Route high-volume traffic through an IVR — since IVR numbers aren't rate-limited, this is the right setup if you expect call spikes (an ad campaign, a live event, etc.).
- Spread volume across multiple numbers rather than funneling everything through a single line.
If your account gets blocked
Contact support with your account details — they can review the block, restore inbound calling, and discuss a higher threshold if your legitimate call volume regularly approaches these limits.
