Automate Course Certificates with Workflows
When members complete a course, you can issue a certificate automatically, and you can also react when a certificate is issued. Both pieces work through Workflows.
The two building blocks
- Certificate Issued (trigger): starts a workflow once a certificate has been issued, so you can send a congratulations message, add a tag, or update a record.
- Issue Certificate (action): creates and sends a certificate to the contact as a workflow step.
Add the trigger
- Go to Automation > Workflows and create or open a workflow.
- Click Add New Trigger.
- Search for Certificate Issued and select it.
- Choose any filters it offers and save.
Add the action
- In the same or another workflow, click + to add an action.
- Search for Issue Certificate.
- Choose the certificate to send and save the action.
Example flow
- Trigger: Product Completed (a learner finishes a course).
- Action: Issue Certificate.
- Action: Send Email with a note of congratulations.
- Action: Add Contact Tag such as "graduate".
Finding issued certificates
Every certificate issued by a workflow appears under Memberships > Certificates > Issued Certificates, so you can verify who received what.
Delivery by messaging apps
If you plan to send certificates through WhatsApp, set up your WhatsApp connection first so those messages can be delivered.
Good to know: Use the Certificate Issued trigger in a separate workflow to keep the certificate step and the celebration messages easy to manage.
