Refresh a Stale LinkedIn Link Preview

If you update the title, description, or image of a web page but LinkedIn still shows the old card when you share the link, you are seeing cached data. LinkedIn stores link previews for about seven days.

Why it happens

When a URL is first shared, LinkedIn saves the page's title, description, and image. It keeps using that saved copy rather than reading your page again, so edits to your site do not appear right away. This affects posts scheduled from Social Planner as well.

Clear the cached preview

  1. Update your page so its title, description, and preview image are correct.
  2. Open LinkedIn's free Post Inspector tool in your browser.
  3. Paste the page URL and click Inspect.
  4. Confirm that the new image and text appear in the result.
  5. Return to Marketing > Social Planner and create or reschedule your LinkedIn post with the link.

If the old preview persists

  • Run the inspection once more and wait a few minutes.
  • Check that your page's social preview tags point to the new image and that the image file is publicly reachable.
  • Use a slightly different URL, for example by adding a harmless query string, as a last resort.

Good to know: Run the inspector before you schedule a batch of posts for a new page, so every post goes out with the correct preview from the start.
