Build a Website from Scratch

Sometimes a template just doesn't fit what you're building. Starting from blank gives you complete control over every section, at the cost of a bit more setup time.

Plan before you build

Before opening the editor, jot down what the site actually needs to accomplish: who's visiting, what you want them to do, and which pages you need (Home, About, Services, Contact are the usual starting set). Gather your logo, photos, and any copy you already have written — having assets ready makes the build itself go much faster.

Start your site

1. Go to Sites > Websites > New Website > From Blank and click Create.
2. Click Add New Page, name it (start with "Home"), and create it.
3. Click Create From Blank to open the page in the builder.

Build your first page

The builder works in layers: sections contain rows, rows contain columns, and columns hold individual elements.

1. Add a full-width section to start.
2. Insert a row with a single column inside it.
3. Drag in the elements you need — a headline, a sub-headline, a button.
4. Configure your button's action — for example, set it to dial your phone number directly when tapped.
5. Repeat with new sections until the page tells the full story you want it to.

Add the rest of your pages

Back out to your site's page list, create each additional page by name, and build them the same way — section by section, dragging in elements as you go.

Wire up navigation

On your Home page, add a section at the very top and drop in a Navigation Menu element, then link it to each of your pages. Add a footer section at the bottom using one of the ready-made footer layouts so visitors always have a way back to your key pages.

Check it, then publish

Toggle between desktop and mobile preview to make sure nothing breaks on a smaller screen, and adjust styling from the panel on the right until it looks right in both. Fill in your SEO title and description for each page, connect a custom domain if you have one, and publish when you're ready to go live.
