Move and Edit Deals with the Update Opportunity Action
Update Opportunity changes an existing deal automatically, so pipeline stages, values and statuses stay current without manual edits.
Which opportunity is updated
The action needs an opportunity already in context, from an opportunity-based trigger such as Opportunity Status Changed or from an earlier Find Opportunity step. Creating an opportunity earlier in the workflow does not by itself provide that context. If no opportunity is available, the step is skipped.
Fields you can change
Click Add field and choose from:
- Pipeline and Pipeline Stage, to move the deal.
- Status: Open, Won, Lost or Abandoned.
- Opportunity Source, including a merge field for the contact's source.
- Opportunity Value, a fixed amount or merge field like a quoted price.
- Name and other fields.
Toggle Allow Opportunity to Move to Any Previous Stage if deals may move backward. Otherwise they only move forward.
Set it up
- Choose a trigger or add Find Opportunity first.
- Click + and choose Update Opportunity.
- Add each field you want to change.
- Save and publish.
Example
When a quote form is submitted, find the contact's open opportunity, then move it to the "Quote Sent" stage and set its value from the quote field.
Not included
This action never creates duplicates and cannot change the owner. Use Add Owner to Opportunity for that.
Good to know: Leave the backward-move toggle off unless needed, so stray triggers cannot undo real progress.
