React to Phone Number Checks with the Number Validation Trigger

Before your first text goes to a number, Vendi Today can check whether the destination is valid and able to receive SMS. The Number Validation trigger starts a workflow based on that result, so you can fix data, notify staff or switch channels instead of sending texts that will fail.

Important points

  • This check is part of the Number Intelligence feature and must be enabled.
  • It does not prove consent. Always follow your opt-in and messaging-compliance rules.
  • It runs when the first outbound SMS to a number is being prepared, not when a contact is created or imported.
  • It is separate from delivery errors. To react to texts that fail after sending, use the messaging-error trigger instead.

Turn it on

  1. Go to Settings > Phone System.
  2. Open Additional Settings.
  3. Find Number Intelligence and enable it.

Validation, spam detection and name lookup are enabled or disabled together.

Create the trigger

  1. Go to Automation > Workflows and create a workflow.
  2. Click Add New Trigger and choose Number Validation.
  3. Add the Number is filter and select the validation result you want, from the options shown.
  4. Save the trigger and add actions.

Create separate workflows for different results to handle each case.

What to do with the result

  • Alternate path: if SMS should not be used, email the contact or schedule a call.
  • Fix the data: add a tag like "Check phone" and assign a task to correct the number.
  • Team alert: send an internal notification when a number needs attention.
  • Keep the record: never delete the contact just because the phone is unusable.

Tips

  • Pair this with a form that confirms phone numbers.
  • Review the tagged contacts weekly and correct typos.
  • Test using a number you know is invalid.

Good to know: Validation protects your sending reputation by cutting attempts to numbers that cannot receive texts.
