Connect Google Ads to Ad Manager
Before you can build Google campaigns, Ad Manager needs permission to use your Google account and one Google Ads account. This is a one-time setup.
Before you begin
- Ad Manager must be activated, and your user role needs access to it. If the Activate Ad Manager button or the Ad Manager menu is missing, ask your account administrator to grant the permission under Settings > My Staff (Teams and roles).
- You need a Google account that has access to a Google Ads account.
- A Google Ads account with a payment method on file, because Google charges ad spend to it.
Connect your accounts
- Go to Marketing > Ad Manager. If you are new, click Activate Ad Manager and finish any subscription step shown.
- On the onboarding screen, click Connect Google.
- Pick the Google email address that owns or manages your ads.
- Approve every permission requested. Leaving any unchecked can cause the connection to fail.
- Back in Ad Manager, open the Select Ad Account dropdown and choose the Google Ads account to use. Only eligible accounts are shown.
- Click Get Started to begin creating campaigns.
Only one Google Ads account can be connected at a time.
About costs
An Ad Manager subscription, where your plan includes one, is separate from your ad spend. Campaign charges come from the payment method on your connected Google Ads account, and Google bills them after the campaign is approved and running.
Troubleshooting
- No ad accounts in the list: the Google login you picked has no access to a Google Ads account. Sign in with a different Google profile.
- Connection errors: repeat the process and make sure all permission boxes are ticked.
- Wrong account: disconnect and reconnect with the correct login.
Good to know: Use the same Google login that manages your billing, so campaigns publish without payment holds.
