Community Channels and Leaderboard: Triggers and Actions

Beyond group membership, communities have private channels and leaderboards. Workflows can manage both.

Private channel access

You can grant or revoke access to a private channel inside a group using workflow actions.

  • Grant Private Channel Access: gives a member access to a chosen private channel. If the member is not yet in the group, they are added to the group and then to the channel.
  • Revoke Private Channel Access: removes the member from the channel while keeping them in the group.

Only private channels appear in the picker, so create the channel first. These actions pair with the matching private channel access triggers, which let other workflows react when access changes.

Example: after a member buys an upgrade, grant them the "Book Upgrades" private channel and send a welcome message there.

Leaderboard level changes

The User Group Gamification Level Changed trigger fires when a member's leaderboard level changes in a group.

  1. Add the trigger to a workflow.
  2. Add filters for the group and the level you care about.
  3. Save and publish.

Example: when a member reaches level 3, send a congratulatory message and unlock a perk.

Grant leaderboard points

The Grant community group leaderboard points action awards points from any workflow.

  1. Add the action after any trigger, such as a course completion.
  2. Select the number of points from the dropdown.
  3. Pick the group the points apply to.

The member must belong to the group, otherwise the workflow step fails.

Tips

  • Build a rewards loop: completing a course grants points, which raise the level, which fires a level trigger that unlocks a private channel.
  • Keep point values simple, such as 5, 10 and 20.

Good to know: Check execution logs if points do not arrive; a missing group membership is the most common reason.
