Remove a Contact for Good with the Delete Contact Action

Delete Contact deletes the contact currently moving through the workflow. It is useful for housekeeping, such as clearing junk sign-ups, and it should be used carefully.

What it does

  • Deletes the contact record and associated data such as conversations, notes, tasks and activity history.
  • Takes effect immediately, so it ends the workflow for that contact. Actions placed after it do not run.
  • Has no settings to configure.

Set it up

  1. Open Automation > Workflows.
  2. Define the trigger and filters that decide who qualifies.
  3. Click +, choose Delete Contact, and put it at the end of the branch.
  4. Click Save Action, test with a throwaway contact, then publish.

Safety checklist

  • Re-read every filter and condition that leads to deletion.
  • Test with dummy contacts before turning the workflow on.
  • Keep your own exports of contact data.
  • Tell teammates the automation exists.

Recovery

A deleted contact can be restored for a limited period, which is currently about two months. Restoring brings back the contact record, but not the conversations, notes, tasks or activity history that were attached to it.

Safer alternative

If you only want a contact to stop progressing, use Remove from Workflow. It ends that automation but leaves the contact and its data untouched.

Good to know: Add a condition such as "tag equals Junk" immediately before Delete Contact so a mistaken enrollment cannot erase real customers.
