Follow Up on Clicks with the Trigger Link Clicked Trigger
Trigger links are short tracked links you place in emails, texts and other messages. The Trigger Link Clicked trigger starts a workflow when a contact clicks a particular one, which tells you exactly who is interested.
What fires it
A workflow runs when a contact clicks the trigger link you selected. Only that contact enrolls, which makes it ideal for targeted follow-up. The link can be used in emails, texts or any message.
Filter
- Trigger link: required. Pick the exact link from the dropdown. Create links first under Marketing > Trigger Links so they appear in the list.
Set it up
- Go to Automation > Workflows and create a workflow.
- Click Add New Trigger and select Trigger Link Clicked.
- Name it, for example "Spring Sale link clicked".
- Under filters, choose the Trigger link.
- Click Save Trigger.
- Add actions and publish.
Example
You send a promotional email with a link called "Spring Sale Promo". When someone clicks it, the workflow adds an "Interested in promo" tag, sends a follow-up message with a limited discount, and creates a task for a salesperson if the contact also has the "Hot lead" tag.
Good ideas
- Use different links in the same message for different interests, such as "Pricing" and "Book a demo", and give each its own workflow.
- Add a Wait and a Condition to check whether the contact bought, so people are not nudged after they convert.
- Use the link in a text and inside an email separately to learn which channel works better.
Remember
Email programs and security scanners may preview links automatically. A click from a scanner can look like a real one, so confirm important actions with a second signal.
Good to know: Create a distinct link per campaign; reusing one link makes it hard to tell which message earned the click.
