Add Search and Category Navigation to Your Blog

Visitors stay longer when they can search your posts and jump straight to a topic. Category navigation also gives search engines a clear picture of how your content is organized.

Add category navigation

  1. Go to Sites > Blog and click the name of your blog.
  2. In the list view, click Edit Site.
  3. In the elements panel, find Category Navigation and drag it onto the blog home page.
  4. Click the first placeholder category to rename it and link it to the matching category page.
  5. Repeat for each additional category, and add more as needed.

Turn blog search on or off

In the same editor, use the Search option on the blog layout to enable or hide the search box. When enabled, visitors can type a keyword and see matching posts.

Tips for a tidy structure

  • Keep category names short and distinct from one another.
  • Use no more than a handful of top-level categories.
  • Make sure each post is assigned to a category in its metadata step, otherwise it will not appear in the navigation.
  • Preview on mobile to confirm the navigation wraps cleanly.

Good to know: Category links in the element must point to real category pages, so create the categories (by assigning them to posts) before wiring up the navigation.
