Turn the Chat Widget Notification Sound On or Off
The notification sound helps visitors notice new messages while they browse. It applies to Live Chat and All-in-One widgets.
What it does when on
- Plays a sound when a message is shown, including replies, welcome messages, form prompts and redirects.
- Adds visual cues such as popups, notification badges and browser tab title changes.
It is on by default. When off, the widget is completely silent, with no sound and no visual interruptions.
Change it
- Go to Sites > Chat Widget and open the widget.
- Open the Chat Window tab and expand Additional Options.
- Switch Notification Sound on or off.
- Click Save.
- If the code is already installed, refresh your website to see the update. You do not need to replace the code.
Notes
- The setting is per widget, so different widgets can behave differently.
- It controls only what visitors hear; your team's alerts are managed in each user's notification settings.
- It is a simple toggle. Custom sounds and volume control are not available.
- Sounds can also play for office-hours messages and contact-details requests.
Good to know: Turn it off on pages where an unexpected sound would be unwelcome, such as a long-form article.
