Use the Built-In File Manager for WordPress

The file manager in Vendi Today gives you direct access to your site's files without an FTP program or a separate plugin. Browse folders, upload, download, edit, and organize from one screen.

What it can do

  • Browse and search: move through the folder tree, search by name, filter, sort by name or date, and page through large folders.
  • Upload and download: send files to any folder, or save copies to your computer for backup or offline work.
  • Edit safely: preview a file, change it, and save. If someone or something else changed the file after you opened it, you are warned instead of silently overwriting their work.
  • Organize: create files and folders, delete items, compress to an archive, and extract archives to unpack themes or plugins.
  • Permissions: change permission values on files and folders where the hosting setup allows it.

Steps

  1. Go to Sites > WordPress and open the site's management area.
  2. Click File Manager.
  3. Click folders to open them and use the search bar to find a file.
  4. To upload, open the target folder, click Upload, and pick your files.
  5. To download, select the item and click Download.
  6. To edit, select a file, click Edit, change the content, and click Save.
  7. Use New File, New Folder, Delete, Compress, and Extract from the toolbar or the right-click menu.

Careful with core files

Preview a file before changing it, especially wp-config.php and .htaccess, which can take the whole site offline if edited incorrectly. Make a copy first, change one thing at a time, and restore from a backup if something goes wrong.

Compared with FTP or a plugin, this tool needs no credentials and no installation.

Good to know: Compress a folder before deleting or restructuring it, giving you an instant local copy to roll back to.
