Capture Leads From Forms Built on Other Platforms

External Tracking watches your outside website and sends form submissions into Contacts automatically, without connectors or manual mapping.

What it detects

Forms rendered directly on the page, including popular WordPress form plugins, custom HTML forms, and forms from no-code site builders. Each form on a page is tracked separately. It cannot read fields hidden inside a frame or controlled entirely by a third-party widget.

Requirements for best results

  • Fields have name attributes and are visible on the page.
  • An email field is present when you want contacts created or matched.

Set it up

  1. Go to Settings > External Tracking.
  2. Click Copy Script. Do not change the tracking ID inside it.
  3. Paste it before the closing body tag of your website so it loads on every page. This works on WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Webflow or custom sites.
  4. Submit your external form as a visitor would.
  5. Open Sites > Forms > Submissions and filter by External Forms.
  6. Open the contact record to see the details and activity.

What you get

  • A contact created or updated at once.
  • Fields matched to existing contact and custom fields; leftovers are stored for later.
  • Page URL, UTM values and session information for attribution.

Automate

Use a Workflow with the matching form trigger to start follow-up as soon as a lead arrives.

Good to know: Install the script site-wide instead of one page at a time, so you do not miss a form added later.
