Use Custom Objects and Companies in Forms, Surveys and Quizzes

Some information does not fit on a contact record, such as a property, a pet or a vehicle. Custom Objects store that data in its own records and link them to contacts.

Objects and companies

  • Custom Objects are ones you define, with your own fields and a primary field.
  • The Company object is built in, with default fields like name, phone and email. The company name is its primary key, and each contact can have one company.

Add object fields to a form, survey or quiz

  1. Create your object under Settings > Custom Objects (companies are under Settings > Companies).
  2. Open the Form, Survey or Quiz builder.
  3. Open Add Object Fields in the left sidebar and choose the object.
  4. Set the association that links the object to the contact.
  5. Tick several fields and click Add fields to insert them together, or drag one onto the canvas. Fields insert after the active element, or at the end of the page.
  6. Save and publish. Each submission links the contact and the object record.

The primary field is added automatically.

Rules to remember

  • Use one object type per builder; mixing objects causes an error.
  • Define a primary field for custom objects.
  • Not supported: custom values in object fields, bulk updates, sharing through template libraries, or sharing objects across accounts.

Quick fixes

  • Mixed object error: remove older object fields first.
  • Company not showing: confirm it exists in Settings > Companies.
  • Primary field removed: all object fields clear; re-add them.

Good to know: Examples include a property record linked to several buyers, or a pet record linked to its owner.
