Split Contacts into Paths with the If/Else Action

If/Else checks each contact against rules you define and sends them down the matching path. It is the main decision tool in a workflow.

Building branches

  1. Click + and choose If / Else.
  2. Choose Build My Own, or start from a prebuilt recipe of common conditions.
  3. In the first branch, search for or browse to a field, pick an operator and set the comparison value.
  4. Click Add Segment to add more conditions, then use AND or OR to control grouping.
  5. Click Add Branch for more paths. Branches are checked from top to bottom.
  6. Rename the branches and add steps beneath each.

The None branch

A None (else) branch is created automatically. It runs when no condition matches. It cannot be removed or given conditions, but you can rename it and place fallback actions under it.

Finding fields

The field picker searches inside folders and subfolders, so you do not need to open each group. Hover over a truncated name to see it in full. Only fields available in the current context are shown.

Examples

  • Email engagement: opened the last email goes to a follow-up, otherwise a different message.
  • Tag check: contacts with "Purchased" end the workflow, everyone else continues.
  • Pipeline value: deals over a number go to a senior rep.

Newer fields

Branch on fields such as Contact Engagement Score, attribution values, the note creator's name and task IDs. Some only appear when the workflow context supports them.

Good to know: Always put something useful under the None branch, even if it is just a tag, so unexpected contacts do not fall through silently.
