Set Up Multi-Tier Commissions
Multi-tier commissions let you pay not just the affiliate who made a sale but also the affiliates above them in the referral chain. A campaign can have up to seven tiers, each with its own rate.
How Tiers Pay Out
Say your tiers are 20%, 10% and 5%. When Jan, who was recruited by Toby, who was recruited by Ryan, makes a $100 sale:
- Jan (tier 1) earns $20.
- Toby (tier 2) earns $10.
- Ryan (tier 3) earns $5.
If the chain is shorter, only the levels that actually exist are paid. Someone with just one recruiter above them would generate only the first two payments.
Configure Tiers
- Go to Marketing > Affiliate Manager > Campaigns and click + Add, or open an existing campaign.
- Complete the campaign details, source and product list.
- On the Commissions step, enter the default commission.
- Open Advanced commission settings and set Number of tiers. Leave it at 1 for a single-level program.
- Open each additional tier, enter its Default commission for all products, and use Customize commission by products where a product needs its own rate.
- Review every tier, then continue to the final step and click Finish.
Requirements and Limits
- At least two tiers are needed before sub-affiliates can be used.
- Seven is the maximum.
- Products given a custom rate must be in the campaign's product list.
- The tier count is set on the campaign. Individual affiliates can have custom rates, but they cannot change the number of tiers.
Good to know: Keep upper-tier percentages small, because they are paid on top of the sale-making affiliate's reward.
