Link Tracking, UTM Parameters and Engagement Tags

Workflow emails, bulk emails and campaigns share an Advanced Settings section that helps you measure results and trigger follow-up automatically.

The three options

  • Link Tracking: records which links were clicked, by whom, and the click-through rate for each link.
  • UTM Parameters: appends campaign tags to your links so your website analytics can show which email sent a visitor.
  • Tags on Actions: automatically adds tags to contacts when they open or click, which you can use as filters or workflow triggers.

Turning them on

  1. Open a workflow and add or edit a Send Email action.
  2. Expand Advanced Settings.
  3. Switch on Link Tracking if you want click data.
  4. Add your UTM Parameters such as source, medium and campaign.
  5. Choose the tags to apply for opens or clicks.
  6. Click Save Action.

In bulk sends from Contacts > Smart Lists, the same options live in the Additional Settings drawer.

Reading the results

After the email sends, reopen the action and click View Details or Performance. For a broader view, go to Marketing > Emails > Statistics.

Practical ideas

  • Tag everyone who clicks the pricing link, then start a sales follow-up workflow for that tag.
  • Use a consistent UTM campaign name so reports group related emails.
  • Tag openers of a re-engagement email to remove them from a win-back list.

Remember

Tracking works through links in the email. Make sure the important links are actual links or buttons, not images without a destination.

Good to know: Use lowercase, hyphenated UTM values. Inconsistent spelling splits one campaign into several rows in your analytics.
