Redeem Gift Cards for Offline Payments
When you're collecting a payment yourself — recording a manual payment, charging a saved card, or setting up a subscription — you can apply a customer's gift card balance toward it, rather than only accepting gift cards at self-serve checkouts.
Apply a gift card to a payment
- Start the payment as you normally would — recording a payment on an order or invoice, charging a contact directly, or setting up a new subscription.
- Look for the Gift Card field in that payment flow and enter the customer's code.
- Click Apply. The system validates the code and shows you the remaining balance.
- Review the summary — if the balance covers the full amount, that's it; if it doesn't, the rest is automatically charged to the customer's payment method on file to complete the split payment.
- Complete the payment as usual. The gift card's remaining balance updates automatically.
Where this works
This works when recording a payment on an order, recording a payment on an invoice, charging a contact directly, and when creating a new subscription. Keep in mind you can only apply one gift card per payment, and a gift card alone can't fully fund a new subscription — a saved payment method still needs to be on file to cover the recurring charges going forward, even if the gift card covers the first payment.
