React to Opens, Clicks and Bounces with the Email Events Trigger

Email gives you a stream of signals about how people respond. The Email Events trigger turns those signals into actions, from following up on clicks to cleaning up bad addresses.

Events you can choose

  • Opened: the recipient opened an email.
  • Clicked: the recipient clicked a link.
  • Bounced: the email could not be delivered.
  • Unsubscribed: the recipient left your list.
  • Complained (Spam): the recipient marked the email as spam.

Select one or several. Each choice can start the same workflow.

Filters

  • Event: pick the types above.
  • In Workflow: limit the trigger to emails sent by a particular workflow. Without this, the trigger watches email from all sources.

Set it up

  1. Go to Automation > Workflows and create a workflow.
  2. Click Add New Trigger and select Email Events.
  3. Name it, such as "Clicked consultation promo".
  4. Click Add filters, choose Event, and tick Clicked.
  5. Add In Workflow and select the campaign workflow.
  6. Click Save Trigger, add actions, and publish.

Example workflows

  • Clicked: email a booking link and notify the sales team.
  • Bounced: add a "Bad email" tag and stop sending to the address.
  • Unsubscribed: record the choice in a field and remove the contact from active sequences.
  • Complained: tag as "Spam complaint" and suppress all marketing emails, which protects your sender reputation.

Tips

  • Treat Opened carefully. Some mail apps preload images, so an open does not always mean a person read it.
  • Handle bounces and complaints quickly; too many of either harm deliverability.

Good to know: Use Trigger Link Clicked instead when you care about one specific link rather than any click.
