Restore Earlier Versions Created by the AI Workflow Builder
When you ask the AI assistant to build or edit a workflow, each result is saved as an artifact card in the chat. Those cards let you roll back with one click if an AI edit removes a trigger or changes a step you wanted to keep.
How artifact cards work
- Every AI build or edit adds a card at that point in the conversation, forming a timeline.
- The card matching your current canvas has a purple border.
- Cards from older iterations have a three-dot menu with Restore this version.
- Restoring never deletes newer versions, so you can move back and forth freely.
- Manual edits you make on the canvas do not create cards, but they do appear in Version History.
Use it
- Open the Workflow AI Builder and describe what you want.
- After the build, find the first card with the purple border.
- Ask for another change. A new card appears and takes the purple border.
- To go back, open the menu on an older card and choose Restore this version.
- The canvas reverts and the purple border moves to the restored card.
Link to Version History
Choose Show in version history on a card to open the Version History tab with that entry highlighted. AI-generated and manual versions appear together in one timeline, and the tab remains the source of truth for version numbers.
The "Unsaved" label
If auto-save is turned off, cards may show an Unsaved pill, meaning that iteration lives only in memory. Save the workflow before leaving the page, or turn on Auto Save so every iteration is stored.
Tips
- Ask for one change at a time, so each card represents a clear step.
- Restore and compare two approaches before choosing.
- Test the restored version before publishing.
Good to know: An aggressive AI rewrite is low-risk when you know you can restore the previous card in a click.
