Text Contacts at the Right Moment with the Send SMS Action

Send SMS sends a text message to the contact when the workflow reaches that step. It is ideal for reminders, order updates, event changes and time-sensitive offers.

Fields to complete

  • Action Name: for example "Appointment Reminder SMS".
  • Message: your text, with merge fields such as the contact's first name or appointment time.
  • Templates: start from a saved snippet if you have one.
  • Attachment: SMS does not carry direct file attachments, so add a link to the file, map, ticket or document instead.
  • Test Phone Number: type a number to preview the message.

Send a test text

  1. Check the flag beside Test Phone Number. It starts on your account's country.
  2. To use another country, click the flag and search by name or dialing code.
  3. Enter the number in local format.
  4. Click Send test SMS.

Set it up

  1. In the builder, click + and choose Send SMS.
  2. Name it and write the message.
  3. Send a test.
  4. Click Save Action, save the workflow and publish.

Example: two-step reminder

Trigger: Customer Booked Appointment. Wait until 24 hours before, send "Hi first name, this is a reminder for your appointment tomorrow at start time." Then wait until one hour before and send a short second reminder.

Timing

The text goes out when the contact reaches the step, so control timing with waits and conditions placed earlier.

Good to know: Contacts with Do Not Disturb enabled for SMS will not receive the message, so keep your message count reasonable.
