Fixing RSS Emails That Show HTML Tags
If your RSS email displays raw code such as paragraph tags in the body, the feed content is being treated as plain text instead of formatted content.
Why it happens
By default, RSS values are escaped for safety. A symbol like an ampersand becomes its code form, and HTML in the feed is shown as visible text instead of formatting.
The fix
Use the triple-brace form for the value:
- Open the email in Marketing > Emails.
- Make sure you use the RSS Items block in Custom mode, so the text is editable.
- Find
{{rss_item.content}}in the editor. - Replace it with
{{{rss_item.content}}}using three braces on each side. - Do the same for any other field that contains formatting, such as the full content value.
- Preview with an RSS feed address and send a test email.
When to use each form
- Two braces: plain text fields such as titles.
- Three braces: fields that contain HTML you want rendered, such as content and full content.
Checks after fixing
- Paragraph breaks and links display normally.
- Images from the feed appear where expected.
- Nothing looks overly long. Consider using the summary field instead of the full content.
Still not right?
Open the feed itself in a browser and look at its structure. If the content is not well-formed HTML, the email cannot render it correctly either.
Good to know: Titles rarely need three braces. Use them only where the feed holds formatted content.
