Pass Processing Fees to Customers
If you want to recover card-processing costs instead of absorbing them, you can automatically add a small fee — a processing charge, convenience fee, or similar — to customer payments. The fee shows to the customer as its own line item, so there's no surprise at checkout.
Set it up
- Go to Payments > Settings and find the Miscellaneous Charges section.
- Turn on the toggle.
- Give the fee a customer-facing label, like "Convenience Fee" or "Processing Fee."
- Enter the percentage to charge.
- Choose which channels should include it — invoices, funnels, ecommerce stores, payment links, forms, and surveys are all available individually.
- Save.
The fee is calculated as a percentage of the subtotal (after any discounts, plus tax), rounded to two decimal places, and added to the total the customer pays.
Limitations to know before turning this on
- Not available for PayPal or custom payment providers, except on invoices.
- Doesn't apply to ecommerce upsell products.
- You can't currently set a different fee percentage for different channels — it's one rate across whichever channels you enable.
- Not supported for invoice payments made from the mobile app.
Because rules around surcharging vary by region and card network, check what's allowed where you do business before turning this on.
