Connect Your Own SMTP Email Provider

Connect your own trusted SMTP service instead of using built-in sending.

Connecting a provider

1. Settings > Email Services > SMTP Service, click + Add Service.
2. Choose your provider (Gmail, Yahoo, SendGrid have quick setups) or Other (Mailgun, Amazon SES, Postmark, etc.).
3. Enter SMTP Host, Port (587 TLS or 465 SSL typically), Username, Password/API Key, From Name/Email.
4. Save, set Active.

Only one service active at a time; switch back to built-in sending anytime. Turn on Enable reply to track replies in Conversations.

Provider-specific notes

SendGrid: username is literally apikey; password is your Full Access API key; verify a sender identity first and copy the key immediately (shown once).

Zoho: personal accounts use smtp.zoho.com, custom domain accounts use smtppro.zoho.com; port 465 SSL or 587 TLS; use an app-specific password if 2FA is on.

Why you can't use a free email address

Sending through Gmail/Yahoo/Hotmail relies on their domain reputation, and they actively restrict bulk sending from personal accounts. Use an address on a domain you own.

If emails stop sending

Most common cause: a mismatch between your "From" address and what's authenticated with your SMTP provider. Click the alert icon on a failed send for the exact error.
