Getting Started with Companies
If you sell to businesses rather than individuals, you're usually dealing with several contacts at the same organization — a decision-maker, a billing contact, a day-to-day point of contact. The Companies object gives you a place to manage the business itself, separate from any one person at it.
Why use Companies
Without a company record, every contact at a business is a disconnected entry — you lose the shared history, notes, and tasks that really belong to the account as a whole. With Companies, everyone tied to that business shows up under one record, so you get a single view of the relationship instead of piecing it together across multiple contact pages.
What a company record stores
- Standard details: name, phone, email, website, address, and description
- Custom fields you define yourself — industry, annual revenue, employee count, or anything else relevant to how you qualify or manage accounts
Working with company lists
- Choose which columns show in your company list view
- Apply filters on any standard or custom field to narrow down to the accounts you care about
- Sort by any field to find what you need quickly
- Search across all fields, standard and custom, at once
How companies relate to contacts
Contacts can be linked to a company record, so all the people you talk to at that business are visible from the company page, and the company's details are visible from each contact. This connection can also be built automatically — see the guide on creating companies from contact imports.
Where to find it
Go to Contacts → Companies to see your list of company records, create new ones, or open an existing one.
